Introduction to Connective Tissue Release™ : Two Day Advanced Course
Learn the Hugh Gilbert Connective Tissue Release (CTR) Method — The Heart of Myofascial Healing
Connective Tissue Release ™ (CTR) – also known as myofascial release – is one of the most powerful and transformative bodywork methods in modern therapy. Developed and refined by leading physiotherapist Hugh Gilbert, this unique CTR training course is taught exclusively at KCR Academy through our Introduction to CTR, CTR 1, and CTR 2 programmes.
Where traditional massage works with muscle, CTR works with fascia – the connective tissue that links and supports every structure in the body. Learning to feel and follow this tissue’s subtle movement helps therapists release long-held restrictions, restore balance, and awaken the body’s natural healing response.
The Hugh Gilbert CTR Method™ blends science, intuition, and a heart-centred approach.
It teaches practitioners to slow down, listen deeply, and truly feel the body’s story beneath their hands. Students describe it as “the best way to understand and experience fascia release and myofascial healing.”
Learning CTR is more than a technique – it’s a transformative shift in awareness. It enhances every treatment you give, expands your sensitivity, and delivers lasting results for both you and your clients.
Ready to deepen your bodywork practice? Join the KCR Academy CTR training course and experience the Hugh Gilbert CTR Method™ : “Where science meets intuition and true healing begins.”
COURSE OVERVIEW
Introduction to Connective Tissue is the Second Foundation Course on the Pathway to Bodywork Mastery
Introduction to Connective Tissue Release is the second required Foundation Course on the KCR Pathway to Bodywork Mastery
Connective Tissue Release (CTR) (The Hugh Gilbert Method TM) — also known as myofascial release — is a highly effective bodywork technique that helps clients relieve chronic pain, release restrictions, improve posture, and restore natural movement.
At KCR Academy, we offer three unique courses — Introduction to CTR, CTR 1, and CTR 2 — designed for massage therapists, bodyworkers, sports therapists, and health professionals who want to expand their skills and deliver lasting results.
What sets our training apart is the combination of science-backed techniques with a heart-centred approach. Students learn to establish heart coherence with clients and practice intuitive methods that unlock deeper levels of healing. Many practitioners describe CTR as a complete paradigm shift that transforms their practice and makes sense of myofascial release for the first time. Join us to elevate your skills and create real impact in your clients’ lives.
This foundation course introduces insights and modalities which will be built upon and developed in the advanced and extended courses of the Pathway to Bodywork Mastery.

What is CTR?
Connective Tissue Release (CTR) — also known as myofascial release — is a powerful bodywork approach designed to free restrictions in the connective tissue and restore natural movement, balance, and wellbeing.
At KCR Academy, our three unique courses (Introduction to Connective Tissue Release, CTR 1, and CTR 2) have been described by experienced therapists as “the first time myofascial release truly made sense.”
What sets our CTR training apart is our heart-centred teaching method: we guide practitioners to establish heart coherence with their clients and to develop intuitive techniques that transform the way they work.
For many therapists trained in conventional or medically based approaches, CTR offers a paradigm shift — blending science, skill, and heart in a way that is both deeply effective and profoundly human.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Is this course suitable for me if I’ve only completed Kinetic Chain Release™ (KCR)?
Yes — and in fact, it’s designed that way.
Introduction to Connective Tissue is the natural next step after Kinetic Chain Release™ (KCR). While KCR rebalances the body globally and structurally, this course takes you deeper into understanding why those changes hold — and how to work more precisely with the connective tissue system itself.
You don’t need prior connective tissue experience. You just need a solid KCR foundation and the desire to deepen your skill.
How is this different from other fascia or connective tissue courses?
This course is rooted in the Hugh Gilbert Method™ — practical, clinical, and immediately applicable.
Rather than overwhelming you with theory alone, you will learn how to:
• Assess connective tissue patterns
• Feel restrictions more clearly – and learn to become an Intuitive practitioner
• Work with tissue in a precise, effective, intuitive way
• Understand the relationship between fascia, structure and compensation
It bridges the gap between global structural correction and advanced pattern work.
You leave not just inspired — but measurably more skilled.
I already get good results with KCR — do I really need this?
If you’re happy staying where you are, you may not.
But if you want to:
• Work with more complex presentations
• Understand compensation patterns at a deeper level
• Refine your palpation skills
• Increase professional confidence
• Elevate your clinical reputation
Then yes — this is the step that changes everything.
Will this make a real difference in my client results?
Yes — often immediately.
Practitioners consistently report:
• Clearer assessment skills
• Greater confidence with complex or secondary patterns
• Longer-lasting results
• Clients noticing a “deeper” change
This is where your hands become more intelligent.
You begin to see — and feel — what you may have previously missed.
Is this a standalone course or part of a bigger pathway?
It’s part of the Pathway to Bodywork Mastery.
Introduction to Connective Tissue prepares you for CTR1 and CTR2, where more advanced and specific connective tissue techniques are taught.
If KCR gives you the structural reset, this course gives you the understanding of the tissue that holds everything together.
