Advanced Connective Tissue Release Training (CTR 1 & 2) the Hugh Gilbert Method™.
Our Connective Tissue Release (CTR) 1 & 2 training courses are designed to expand your capability as a practitioner, supporting clients who have not yet achieved full resolution through the Kinetic Chain Release™ (KCR) protocol alone.
This advanced bodywork training introduces a comprehensive range of targeted connective tissue techniques, addressing key areas including the ankles, knees, pelvis, spine, chest, and more.
Ideal for massage therapists, physiotherapists, and bodywork professionals seeking to deepen their clinical effectiveness and expand their treatment toolkit.
What You Will Learn
Across the two courses, you will learn approximately 24 specific connective tissue techniques. (CTR1 – 11 Techniques)
These techniques are:
- Targeted and clinically applicable
- Designed to complement Kinetic Chain Release™ (KCR)
- Suitable for integration into professional practice immediately following training
Important Course Guidance (Please Read)
This is an intensive, hands-on training course.
Over the two days, the volume of learning is significant, and the pace is purposeful.
Please be aware:
- You will be learning multiple individual techniques (not full treatments)
- The training is practical, focused, and immersive
- Continued practice after the course is essential for confidence and mastery
You will be fully supported throughout, and we encourage all students to arrive ready to engage in a dynamic and focused learning environment.
Who This Course Is For
Once KCR and Introduction to Connective Tissue Rele4ase has been completed this course is ideal for:
- Massage therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Osteopaths
- Sports therapists
- Holistic practitioners
Students looking to advance their bodywork training and provide more precise, effective results for complex or persistent conditions.
Why Learn Connective Tissue Release (CTR)?
Not every client requires this level of intervention. However, for more complex or unresolved presentations, this advanced skillset allows you to:
- Work more precisely with connective tissue patterns
- Address secondary compensations
- Enhance outcomes beyond Kinetic Chain Release™ (KCR) alone
This makes CTR an essential next step within the KCR Pathway to Bodywork Mastery.
Entry Requirements: KCR & Introduction to Connective Tissue
Course Duration: Two Days (14 hands-on hours)
Qualification Obtained: Certificate of Completion of Connective Tissue Release enabling full, immediate implementation.
The Course Teaches: Our Connective Tissue Release courses cumulatively prepare you as a practitioner to assist those who have not yet achieved full resolution of symptoms through the application of the Kinetic Chain Release protocol alone.
You will learn releases specific to the ankles, knees, pelvis, spine and chest, and many more over the two courses.
Although not all clients will require this work, it is nevertheless an exceptional skill set to have available in your toolkit for situations where further intervention is needed.
Connective Tissue Release is KCR Academy’s name for an advanced set of techniques based on myofascial release work.
These were developed over many years by Hugh Gilbert and his eventual body of work is so extensive it has to be taught over two courses.
The general definition for Myofascial release is: ‘an alternative medicine therapy useful for treating skeletal muscle immobility and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation, and stimulating the stretch reflex in muscles.’

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who is CTR1 for?
CTR1 is for practitioners who have completed Kinetic Chain Release™ (KCR) and Introduction to Connective Tissue and are ready to work at a more advanced level.
This is not an entry-level course. It is for practitioners who want to refine their abilities, deepen their assessment skills, and confidently work with more complex or secondary patterns.
How is CTR1 different from Introduction to Connective Tissue?
Introduction to Connective Tissue teaches you how to see and feel connective tissue patterns.
CTR1 teaches you how to change them.
In CTR1, you learn specific, targeted techniques that address deeper restrictions and compensatory holding patterns within the fascial system. The work becomes more precise, more focused, and more clinically strategic.
I have no previous (bodywork) experience, can I take the class?
Before taking this course you will need to complete KCR Foundation Level 1 and then Introduction to Connective Tissue.
What kind of results can I expect after CTR1?
Practitioners often report:
• Greater clarity with complex cases
• Increased confidence when working with long-standing compensations
• Stronger structural integration
• Clients noticing more profound and longer-lasting changes
CTR1 gives you tools for when “good” results aren’t quite enough.
Will this fit into my existing practice easily?
Yes.
CTR1 techniques integrate seamlessly alongside Kinetic Chain Release™ (KCR). You are not replacing what you already do — you are enhancing it.
Most practitioners find they begin naturally layering CTR1 techniques into sessions as their clinical judgement develops.
Is CTR1 physically demanding?
No.
Like all work within the Hugh Gilbert Method™, the emphasis is on precision, awareness, and correct positioning — not force.
You work smarter, not harder.
Is CTR1 part of the Pathway to Bodywork Mastery?
Yes — and it’s a significant step.
CTR1 marks the transition from competent practitioner to advanced bodyworker. It prepares you for CTR2 and further specialised work within the Academy pathway.
What do I need to bring and wear for the class?
Please bring pen and paper but do not permit electronic devices to be used in class. Wear loose comfortable clothing such as exercise wear. Denim jeans and dresses are not suitable.
Is lunch provided?
We provided tea, coffee, water and biscuits during breaks. There are many nearby options for purchasing lunch – or bring a bagged lunch to eat in the Academy. We do not have kitchen facilities.
